Grünwald: New teaching pool is CO₂-neutral – District of Munich

While it’s cold and slippery outside, swimmers in Grünwald can swim their laps indoors at pleasant temperatures from the New Year: The new teaching pool in the amusement park, measuring 16.6 by 10 meters, expands the range of swimming courses for both Grünwald schools and schools for everyone. The stainless steel basin has an adjustable lifting floor. “We want our citizens, big or small, old or young, to have the opportunity to learn to swim, train and stay fit into old age,” said Grünwald’s mayor Jan Neusiedl (CSU) at the official inauguration on Wednesday. The building, which cost around seven million euros, was completed on time after just one and a half years of construction, and the water has already been let in. The new teaching pool, which was built as an airy, light steel and glass construction in an extension to the existing swimming pool with a basement, will be opened in the new year. According to the municipality, the final work will be done by then. According to Mayor Neusiedl, the new swimming pool can be operated completely sustainably and CO₂-free thanks to the municipal district heating network and its own geothermal source. “That’s why the water temperature in our swimming pool doesn’t have to be lowered at all.”
