Grünwald – High trade tax revenue despite Corona – Munich district

Surprise in Grünwald: Instead of getting into financial difficulties due to Corona, as was feared last year, the community is now in a particularly good position. With 236 million euros in trade tax revenue in 2021, it achieved the second-best result ever. According to treasurer Raimund Bader, the overall budget is “excellent” at around 261 million euros. Of this, the administrative budget accounts for around 229.2 million euros, the property budget for 32 million. Small changes that were decided during the preliminary consultations on Tuesday evening are still being incorporated. A large sum could also be transferred to the savings stocking, as Bader likes to put it. “We had a surplus of 23 million euros,” says Bader, in other words: the expenses were lower than the income by this amount. This in turn is mainly due to the result from trade tax. Based on this success, Bader has again increased the new approach for 2022, with an initial expectation of EUR 180 million.

With only 130 million euros expected trade tax, a historic low, one had been very cautious a year ago in Grünwald. At that time, Mayor Jan Neusiedl (CSU) even downplayed the chamberlain, who had predicted 150 million euros. But Neusiedl was pessimistic about Corona “knowing all the facts” at the time and even feared that advance payments of trade tax would have to be refunded because companies would make less profit. Only Thomas Lindbüchl (CSU) had the right instinct a year ago and said that there are also companies that are benefiting from the pandemic. Or at least those who don’t mind. Gastronomy, for example, which was severely affected by Corona, plays a very small role in the overall balance in Grünwald, as Christian Salvermoser, head of the tax office, explains. Instead, however, there are numerous potent companies in Grünwald that have not been influenced by the pandemic.

These are leasing companies for wind power, photovoltaics and solar systems, as Salvermoser says. It also includes an international fund company that manages commercial real estate “from Shanghai to New York”. A pension fund company is also very successful, as are local insurance companies. Incidentally, the miracle was not only observed in Grünwald, says Salvermoser. The state capital of Munich also had exceptionally high trade tax revenue in 2021.

“We don’t need more income,” said treasurer Raimund Bader during the preliminary budget deliberations in the municipal council. The assessment rates should therefore remain the same, namely 240 for trade tax, 300 for property tax A for agricultural land and 200 for property tax B for developed properties. Some investments are being made. Broadband expansion, spread over three years, will devour 23 million euros. New water pipes in the Martin-Kneidl school cost 500,000 euros, a new municipal building on Nibelungenstraße 1.5 million and a new vehicle and a hazardous materials cabinet in the building yard around 200,000 euros.
