Grünheide – Tesla should have a works council – economy

A works council is to be elected at the US electric car manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide. Seven employees took the first step and invited them to the election of an electoral board on November 29, said IG Metall on Tuesday. The union welcomes the move towards participation. “A works council ensures that the interests of the workforce have a voice and weight. This corresponds to the democratic work culture in Germany,” explained Birgit Dietze, district manager of IG Metall in Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony. The first European Tesla plant in Grünheide near Berlin is expected to employ 12,000 people. So far, only one sixth has been hired, including many managers. Therefore, the election will not take place in the short term, said IG Metall. In the US, Tesla employees are mostly not unionized. Company boss Elon Musk is known for his tireless commitment, which he also demands from his workforce.
