Groundbreaking for the rehearsal center of the Residenztheater – Munich

A large rehearsal and workshop center for the Bavarian State Theater is being built in the east of Munich. It costs almost 200 million euros. Why this building is not only expensive, but also of great cultural and political importance.

What takes a long time will finally come. Whether it will be good will be seen in 2026, when the new rehearsal and workshop center for the Bavarian State Theater (PWZ) should be ready. However, for more than 30 years theater makers have been requesting, demanding and begging for it. On this Monday afternoon, the groundbreaking ceremony took place at the new address, Hohenlindener Strasse 5, in front of the backdrop of a huge truck that the theater uses to transport stage sets and on whose belly is a quote from Antigone: “It takes a lot of time, a short way to go.”
