Grimma: Corona protest in front of Köpping’s house

Police took personal details

When the police arrived at Köpping’s house on Friday evening, the people had fled in several vehicles. 15 cars were stopped by the police and the identities of 25 people were established. A Twitter video shows that minimum clearances were not observed and masks were not worn. The police have reported the violation of the Assembly Act and are investigating violations of the Corona Ordinance. The Saxon Corona Emergency Ordinance currently only allows meetings with a maximum of ten people at a fixed location.

On Saturday morning, the police also tweeted that “all legal steps and possible criminal offenses” would be examined against the protesters. Accordingly, the State Security Department of the Leipzig Police Department took over the investigation.

Criticism of protest in front of apartment building

The SPD in Saxony condemned the protest in front of the house of the SPD minister. Sharp criticism also came from the SPD federal chairmen Saskia Esken and Norbert Walter-Borjans. Esken wrote on Twitter: “Even if the few Hansel try to spread fear and terror: The rational and willing to take responsibility are the great majority, and they are by your side!” Walter-Borjans tweeted on Saturday morning that what had happened in front of Petra Köpping’s house had nothing to do with worry and the urge for freedom. “This is fascist in style and appearance,” wrote the party leader literally. Saxony’s Justice Minister Katja Meier (Greens) spoke on Twitter of an “absolute breaking of a taboo”.

Even if the few Hansel try to spread fear and horror: The rational and willing to take responsibility are the great majority, and they stand by your side!

Video on Twitter occupies scenes

According to information from the “Bild” newspaper, the Saxon SPD health minister was at home. The “Free Saxony” party published a video on Twitter showing several people with torches, whistles and drums in their hands in front of a house. The party writes that it is Köpping’s house. In the video, the demonstrators shout “freedom” and “no dictatorship”.

The “Free Saxony” party is classified as right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and is being monitored. It also includes so-called lateral thinkers. Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer had accused the party days ago of stirring up propaganda, hatred and agitation, among other things, on the Telegram messenger service. There have also been protests in front of Kretschmer’s house.
