What’s next after the anniversary season of “Grey’s Anatomy”? The makers seem to be continuing their successful streak.

“Grey’s Anatomy” starts its anniversary season. The 20th season of the popular hospital series will be flickering across screens in the USA from March 14th. And there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. “I have no information that this will be the last season. So I will continue and tell stories as long as they allow me to,” explains the new one Showrunner Meg Marinis in an interview with Deadline.

“We still have so many stories to tell and have tremendous support from the studio and the network and Shondaland. So I’ll keep going until they tell me to put the pen down.” Marinis has been part of the successful series as a writer and executive producer for 18 years and has followed in the footsteps of former showrunner Krista Vernoff with the new season.

These characters will return in the new season

Fans can look forward to two special returnees in the new episodes. Jessica Capshaw (47) takes on the role of Dr. Arizona Robbins, Alex Landi (31) returns as Dr. Nico Kim returns to Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital – but only for guest appearances. The current showrunner does not rule out further comebacks in the future. “The show has already had 20 seasons, we have so many people we would like to see again.”

Despite her farewell in the 19th season, Ellen Pompeo (54) remains the heart of the series as Meredith Grey. She will reportedly appear in at least four episodes of the new season. The actress also serves as a voiceover voice at the beginning of each episode and remains an executive producer.

Dramatic cliffhanger in the season finale

As usual, season 19 ended with a cliffhanger. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver, 54) collapses in the operating room while trying to save a patient’s life. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd, 50) rushes into the operating room and sees his wife lying lifeless on the floor. In addition to exclusive insights into the new episodes, the official trailer also shows a look back at the dramatic finale.

The 20th season of “Grey’s Anatomy” starts on March 14, 2024 on the US broadcaster ABC. In Germany, the new episodes are expected to be shown around six months later on Disney+, Joyn and ProSieben.
