Greta Thunberg greets Glastonbury – and everyone has just one question for her

Swedish climate protection activist Greta Thunberg will appear on stage at England’s Glastonbury Festival on Saturday afternoon. Shortly after she announced her appearance on Twitter, malicious comments rained down – all of which only addressed one specific thing.
Greta Thunberg goes Glastonbury: The Swedish climate activist tweeted on Saturday afternoon that she will be speaking to visitors on the Pyramid stage in the evening.
“I am delighted to announce that I will be on the Pyramid Stage in Glastonbury at 5.15pm today. See you there!” the 19-year-old wrote on Twitter. In addition, she shows herself with a wide grin and casually dressed in black sports pants, a white T-shirt and red sneakers. The huge festival area can be seen in the background.

A few minutes earlier, Glastonbury Festival also tweeted: ‘We are very pleased to announce that Greta Thunberg will be making a special appearance on the Pyramid Stage around 5.15pm today. Don’t miss it!”.
As the “Daily Mail” reports, she will speak on the festival’s largest stage in front of a backdrop that shows the rise in global temperatures. Most likely, the paper speculates, she will be speaking about the environment and her new book just before American women’s rock group Haim perform.
The Glastonbury Festival is actually a music festival. And many people are irritated by Thunberg’s appearance there. There were a lot of malicious comments on Twitter, such as:
- “Someone so fixated on climate change seems to travel a lot!”
- “Long canoe trip from Sweden?”
- “How did you get there?”
- “What role did fossil fuels play in your journey?”
- “I didn’t know you were a musician. There’s no reason you should be there other than to perform for the people at the Glastonbury Music Festival.”
- “I assume you floated there? I mean, you wouldn’t fly. Would you?”
- “Is your album on Spotify? Or is it just a compilation of you screaming ‘how dare you’ with remixes?”
It is unclear how Greta Thunberg came to the festival in England from Sweden, where she has regularly staged school strikes lately. However, it must have taken more than 24 hours by train and ferry.
The legendary Glastonbury Festival in Pilton, southwest England, is taking place again for the first time after a two-year break due to the corona pandemic. Among the biggest stars at the five-day music festival is ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, who will perform on Saturday night a week after his 80th birthday. Also among the top acts are US singer Billy Eilish and rapper Kendrick Lamar, soul diva Diana Ross, New Zealand musician Lorde and the Pet Shop Boys. Around 200,000 visitors are expected.
