The Greens have agreed on future ministerial posts. Cem Özdemir is to become Minister of Agriculture. The environment minister goes to Steffi Lemke. Anne Spiegel becomes the family minister. Anton Hofreiter comes away empty-handed.
The Greens have agreed to fill ministerial posts. This emerges from a letter from Federal Managing Director Michael Kellner that the ARD capital studio is present. According to this, the former party leader Cem Özdemir is to become Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture. He is the first federal minister with a Turkish migration background.
This was preceded by a bitter struggle between Realos and the left wing over the distribution of cabinet posts. As a result, three out of five proposed Green Ministers are now unacceptable, two are leftists. Three women face two men.
Hofreiter comes away empty-handed
The parliamentary group chairman Anton Hofreiter from the left wing is not part of the staffing table at top positions that the 125,000 Greens members are supposed to vote on together with the coalition agreement from this Friday. It was actually considered to be set, but has now fallen out in favor of Özdemir.
Co-parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt is also not part of the list. She had been traded for the office of family minister. The previous Rhineland-Palatinate Environment Minister Anne Spiegel is to take over the post. She is considered to be the left of the party.
Steffi Lemke becomes Environment Minister
Former federal managing director Steffi Lemke is to become the environment minister. Claudia Roth, currently Vice President of the Bundestag, receives the post of State Minister for Media and Culture. The 66-year-old will succeed Monika Grütters (CDU).
The two party leaders are no surprise: Annalena Baerbock is slated to be the first German foreign minister. Robert Habeck is to become Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. Both belong to the Realo wing of the party.
Controversy and quotas
According to reports, there had previously been a dispute over the occupation of the post. The left wing had initially resisted the planned occupation of a ministerial office with the Realo Özdemir. It had long been considered certain that Hofreiter would move into the cabinet.
Traditionally, the Greens have to agree at least two more or less binding quotas: the balance of both wings and equal representation of women and men.
