Green youth: No to Jamaica, traffic light conditions

Status: 09.10.2021 2:57 p.m.

While the parent party is still keeping this option open, it is clear to the Green Youth that a Jamaica coalition is out of the question under any circumstances. But they also attach conditions to a possible traffic light.

The Green Youth rejects a Jamaica coalition with CDU / CSU and FDP. The Union stands for a “policy that is hostile to the future,” says the board of directors’ urgent motion, which was passed by the federal congress of the Green Youth Organization in Erfurt. “For us a Jamaica coalition is out of the question”.

The Greens are currently holding talks with the SPD and FDP about the possible formation of a federal government, a so-called traffic light alliance. This also supports the Green Youth – but only under conditions that are in some cases difficult to accept, especially for the FDP.

“We don’t need us for minimal compromises”

If the Greens take part in the next federal government, they can only “if the climate is 100 percent protected, the Paris climate protection agreement is the basis for all action in all sectors” and there are immediate measures for this, according to the outgoing federal spokesman for the Green Youth , Georg Kurz.

For minimal compromises, a few corrections to the status quo there, a little climate protection target here – we don’t need that. We weren’t elected for that and we don’t have the time for that either.

End of “crazy” social inequality

Kurz, who introduced the urgency motion, called for investments in infrastructure, an end to “insane inequality” in social issues and the protection of human rights, especially of refugees. Among other things, the Green offspring demands that Hartz IV must be “overcome” in the next four years. As a first immediate measure, the standard rate is to be increased by at least 50 euros and sanctions against Hartz IV recipients are to be abolished.

With the SPD there are “strong content overlaps, which form a good basis for the upcoming negotiations,” it says in the application. “The similarities must become clear in a possible coalition and must not be lost at the expense of the FDP’s policy of rich and clientele.”

The Green Youth is close to the left wing of the party and has more than 18,000 members. Of the 118 Green MPs in the newly elected Bundestag, 27 started as representatives of the youth organization.
