The Green Youth wants to vote against a “Jamaica” coalition at today’s federal congress. The expectations of the youth organization are high – and the preferences are clear.
The mood at the Green Youth is between euphoria and tension. Several members, all under 28, are new to the Bundestag. A particularly large number of young voters voted green. The first three-way talks between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP about possible coalition negotiations have begun: “We are delighted that the talks are about to finally get to the heart of the issues of this time,” says Anna Peters, federal spokeswoman for the Green Youth . “And of course we want strong results on the subject of climate protection, but also social justice to come out in the end.”
The youth organization of the Greens relies on the so-called traffic light coalition. The Green Party leadership thinks this is the “most conceivable” solution. Greens boss Robert Habeck still keeps a back door open for an alliance with the Union and FDP, if one does not agree with the SPD and FDP: “Conceivable means expressly that the biscuit is far from eaten. There are considerable vacancies and also Differences, “he said.
Vote against Jamaica
The Green Youth did not want to swallow the “Jamaica” biscuit from the start. At the federal congress in Erfurt they will probably vote against it. Nevertheless, it is okay if the Green party leadership does not yet completely rule out an alliance with the Union and the FDP, says Peters. According to the executive team, the Union has no vision for the future.
But Georg Kurz, also a spokesman for the Green Youth, expects the FDP to move. Keyword: loosen the debt brake. For Kurz, the most important thing for his generation is not the black zero, but a liveable climate: “A lack of climate protection is the greatest debt that can be left to my generation,” he says.
New federal board
The federal board will also be re-elected this Saturday. One of the applicants, the 25-year-old Timon Dzienus, only said last week what is important to him: “Yes, a lot will not be easy with the FDP. Hartz IV, minimum wage, justice, climate, coal, taxes. But one thing, that I would like it not to go under in the truest sense of the word: It needs a completely different refugee policy. ”
A different approach to people who flee to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea is important to many in the Green Youth. How the meanwhile 16,000 members enforce their topics in the future, that will also be the subject of the federal congress, says Anna Peters. After all, the Green Youth has grown enormously. That offers opportunities.
