Greece – France – The notes of the Blues: Fofana in full light, the dark side of Koundé

Brice Samba: 4.5

Two shots on target, two goals: the results are heavy for the poor RC Lens goalkeeper. It would have taken a feat to bring out the two Greek pralines but Samba did not exude crazy authority.

  • In short… A frustrating evening.

Jules Koundé: 3.5

We felt he was rather comfortable with a lot of offensive availability, crosses in good areas but he completely took the lead on the second Greek goal. Giannoulis caught him with a small bridge and this lost duel ended up being very expensive. He had already let Ioannidis slip behind his back (52nd) for a first big alert.

  • In short… This is not how he will keep his job against Clauss.

Replaced by Jonathan Clauss (64th).

William Saliba: 5

Sparkling at Arsenal, he always plays with the handbrake in the selection as if the stakes were catching up with him. He thus committed two unnecessary errors at the end of the match even if he also offered cool-headed returns (37th, 75th) which remain his trademark. Prudent in his investments, we would like him to let go of the horses.

  • In short… He doesn’t bite enough into his selections.

Lucas Hernandez: 4

He precipitated the big black hole of the Blues by missing his restart on the Greek equalizer. Too bad because until now the Parisian had held his zone well. On the second goal, he lacked the conviction to counter Ioannidis’ strike.

  • In short… In question on the two Greek goals.

Replaced by Axel Disasi (85th).

“I don’t see how the Euro could escape France, England or Portugal”

Theo Hernandez: 5

Solid behind, he provided fewer solutions than usual on his left side. Was it the absence of Kylian Mbappé at the kick-off which hampered his offensive intentions? For the rest, his physical impact allowed him to bring order to his half.

Youssouf Fofana: 8

Man of the match, without question. He first found intervals with great efficiency in his passing game. He offered three fantastic balls over the defense for Griezmann (34th), Clauss (70th) and Rabiot (85th). It is also he who initiates the movement on the opening score. Add to that his physical impact in recovery and a good dose of confidence and his match was already a great success. His cannon shot, which offers a draw, raises it a notch. What party…

  • In short… Two goals, an assist and so much more than that in two matches: the best Blue of the week.

Antoine Griezmann: 6

A very dense first period where, true to form, he was everywhere: a shot without momentum (15th), a volley off the post (34th) and a crazy return to relieve his defense (39th). The Madrilenian was a little more clumsy after the break.

  • In short… Still so useful.

Adrien Rabiot: 4.5

Lots of energy and duels won for the Turin player but he was sometimes inaccurate in his transmissions. Rabiot is especially late for the second Greek goal where Ioannidis beats him to score.

  • In short… A costly delay.

Randal Kolo Muani: 6

On the right, he is not the same player. With space in front, he makes differences like on this nice breakthrough. Mobile, available, he tried a lot and above all finished the job with a pretty face in a tight corner. His first goal since the World Cup, a real relief.

  • In short… We prefer him on one side and it’s not this match that will change our minds.

Replaced by Kylian Mbappé (64th)

Ousmane Dembélé: 4

He started with full batteries. The Parisian offered changes of pace, in-depth solutions but, as too often, he lacked precision. He ended his first period with two lost balls in dangerous areas. More discreet after the break, he did not destabilize the Greeks enough.

Replaced by Kingsley Coman (64th)

Olivier Giroud: 5

He did the dirty work in the middle of a dense defense. The Milanese didn’t have much to sink his teeth into but his superb delivery for Kolo Muani still gave him a decisive pass. For the rest, he was discreet in the opposing area but useful in his work as first defender.

  • In short… Never in a position to score.

Replaced by Marcus Thuram (70th).
