Greta Thunberg expresses her solidarity with the Palestinians in the Middle East conflict on social media. Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke sees this as damaging the image of the climate protection movement.
Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke has criticized the Swedish climate activist’s comments Greta Thunberg and the climate protection movement Fridays for Future International criticized the Gaza war. The movement has made invaluable contributions to climate protection.
“The unspeakable statements by Greta Thunberg and Fridays For Future International about the terrorist attack on Israel destroy the great trust that many people, especially young people, have in the integrity of the movement,” said the Green politician to the editorial network Germany (RND/ Monday).
It was therefore right and “urgently necessary” that Fridays For Future Germany and Luisa Neubauer clearly and unambiguously differentiated themselves from Fridays For Future International and made it clear “that they unreservedly condemn the terror of Hamas and emphasize the non-negotiable nature of Israel’s right to exist.” .

On Instagram, the international Fridays for Future account also made harsh accusations against the Israeli state and “Western media”.
The climate activist Luisa Neubauer distanced herself from the anti-Israel statements on behalf of Fridays for Future Germany. “Our full solidarity goes out to Jews worldwide, and we strongly condemn the terror of Hamas,” Neubauer told the dpa. “We strongly distance ourselves from the anti-Semitic posts on international channels.”
