Great Britain: Authorities warn of ice, fog and snow

Cross country skiing in Victoria Park, London. On Sunday, the British capital and large parts of Great Britain were under a thick blanket of snow. The rain has led to significant traffic disruptions in Greater London, on the tracks and roads, and also here at Heathrow Airport, where more than 50 connections were canceled on Monday – London’s other airports also had to struggle with difficulties. Tonbridge, south-east of the capital, was dusted with powdered sugar. Here in the south of England, the authorities issued ice and fog warnings, for other parts of the country there were also warnings about snow. In the north of Scotland, temperatures on Monday were minus 15 degrees Celsius. The British grid operator National Grid has announced that two additional coal-fired power plants will be connected to the grid during the winter – should the UK’s electricity become scarce.
