Grape recall at Lidl: Manufacturer withdraws fruit from circulation due to increased pesticide value

“In ‘Grapes dark, seedless, variety: Crimson, origin: Spain, 500g’ with batch L-4103, the pesticide acetamiprid was detected above the legal limit. Therefore, customers should definitely pay attention to the recall and not consume the product,” says the Spanish manufacturer’s published statement. According to the announcement, the grapes were not sold in all federal states, but only in Lidl stores in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The active ingredient acetamiprid is contained in many plant protection products. It is used to combat insects, including scale insects, whitefly insects, fungus gnats, boxwood borers and mealybugs. Like that Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) stated, the active ingredient was “reviewed again in the EU in 2018 and is approved for use in plant protection products until 2033”. It is considered to be less harmful than other active ingredients in crop protection products.
