Gräfelfing – What houses tell you – District of Munich

Ingeborg Kropp-Arend from Gräfelfingen has a special connection to buildings: in Fulda she turned the villa of the former provincial rabbi into a meeting place and a place of remembrance where Jewish life becomes tangible.

Of

Annette Jäger, Graefelfing

When Ingeborg Kropp-Arend climbs the dark wooden steps of the villa’s staircase, her hand on the stile of the ornate banister, she says, “I feel the history of the house.” That may sound strange, but that’s the way it is. Each step tells you the story of the people who walked the stairwell, upstairs, downstairs. How might they have fared, what might have occupied them? These are the thoughts that go through the Gräfelfingerin’s head.
