Gräfelfing – municipal councils reject sealing at Eichendorffplatz – district of Munich

The initiative of the Gräfelfingen municipal administration to pave around a third of the area of Eichendorffplatz in the town center was rejected by a majority of municipal councils. The municipality wanted to fortify the front part of the square, which has so far consisted of meadows, towards the Bahnhofstraße in order to be able to hold the weekly market or the Christmas market there. The background to this is that the square in front of the community center will not be usable until at least February 2024 once the renovation work on the community center begins. Both the weekly market and the Christmas market, which usually take place there, then require alternative accommodation. However, the Greens/Independent List rejected permanent sealing of the soil. Municipal councilor Frauke Schwaiblmair pleaded for a temporary floor covering made of individual panels that can be removed again after use. The majority of the committee members followed the suggestion. However, it remains to be seen whether the alternative proposal can be implemented.
