Gräfelfing: Daycare fees are increasing by leaps and bounds – Munich district

The municipality of Gräfelfing will significantly increase the contributions for municipal childcare facilities in September. The municipal council thus followed the decision of the main committee by a majority. The adjustment is necessary due to the general increase in costs, especially in the personnel area. Childcare has long been a negative business in the municipal budget. The fact that the cost increase is now so significant is also due to the fact that the municipal councils had failed to agree to an adjustment of the contributions in recent years.

The municipality sets the pace when it comes to the costs of childcare in the municipality, and the church providers of childcare facilities, for example, orientate themselves on it. The lack of cost recovery is also noticeable for them. The municipality was thus forced to adjust the contributions; this was last done in 2016. From September 2023, municipal kindergartens will incur additional costs of 100 euros per child and month on average, depending on the scope of care. Since there has been a state subsidy of 100 euros for kindergarten care for all parents, parents currently only pay around 20 euros a month in some booking categories.

In the crèches, the contributions increase by around 40 to almost 100 euros per month. It was also decided to grant parents with a maximum annual income of 70,000 euros a subsidy for childcare. The SPD faction and Günter Roll (Civic Association Gräfelfing-Lochham) voted against an increase in fees.
