Government seminar, the autonomous PS to the Europeans and the heat wave spreads

Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

Emmanuel Macron will be able this Wednesday to specify a little more the course to follow. He will indeed chair a government seminar at the Elysée on his main priorities, followed by a National Council for Refoundation (CNR) tomorrow. These appointments follow the meeting of the Head of State with the party leaders on August 30 in Saint-Denis. However, contrary to what Olivier Véran had initially announced, this Wednesday “we are on a traditional back-to-school seminar, not on a thematic follow-up of Saint-Denis”, according to a government source. The objective is to roll out the parliamentary roadmap of the majority “over the fall until the 2024 budget”, explains Emmanuel Macron’s entourage. A first step, therefore, before the political context becomes very tense, with the line of sight of a possible motion of censure against the government of Elisabeth Borne during the vote on the 2024 Finance Bill.

LFI will have to resolve it: the name of Nupes should not appear during the elections of June 9, 2024. The Socialist Party adopted Tuesday evening, unanimously from its national office, its strategic orientation text for the elections European Unions, which provides for the principle of an independent list and will be submitted to the vote of activists on October 5. The strategic text, not amendable, specifies that the PS has “always considered” that its project would dictate its alliances, “and not the reverse”. The national office also voted unanimously on the programmatic content of the European project, also submitted to the vote of the activists on the same date, and which may be subject to amendments by the federations, until the holding a national closing convention on October 14th.

Part of France will be hot until Sunday. In the meantime, the late and unprecedented heat wave at this time of the year continues to spread. Météo-France has thus placed 44 departments on heatwave yellow vigilance for this Wednesday, after a day on Tuesday marked by new temperature records for the month of September. In its last bulletin at 00:00, the public forecasting body lifted the yellow vigilance for the departments of Creuse, Corrèze and Cantal. Despite the end of the meteorological summer at the end of August, unusual temperatures are affecting a large western portion of the country, where the heat is expected to persist until Sunday, with remarkably warm nights.
