Government dissolves Black African Defense League

Described as a “racist” organization by the Minister of the Interior after tensions in Val-de-Reuil (Eure), the Black African Defense League (LDNA) was dissolved on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, announced Gérald Darmanin, this Wednesday.

According to the dissolution decree, the LDNA “disseminates an ideology calling for hatred, discrimination and violence on the grounds of origin, sexual orientation” and is “repeatedly involved in the organization of isolated “punch” actions or on the occasion of demonstrations committing or calling for violent acts ”.

Violent “actions”

At the beginning of September, after violent “actions” in Val-de-Reuil (Eure), the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin had initiated its dissolution. “I have decided to launch the procedure initiating the dissolution of the Black African Defense League. The speeches of this racist structure call for hatred and discrimination, ”he said.

The LDNA is defined on social networks as a “revolutionary movement for the defense of the rights of Afro-descendants and Africans”. Almost 300,000 people have subscribed to his Facebook page. Its president and founder presents himself on his Twitter account as a “political activist, Pan-African resistance fighter, freedom fighter, revolutionary”.

“Public disturbances”

Several politicians, including members of the National Rally, demanded the dissolution of the association, especially since a demonstration organized against police violence in June 2020 in front of the United States Embassy.

According to the minister, “his actions” caused “disturbances to public order” as in Val-de-Reuil (Eure), where the organization had called for demonstrations against the socialist mayor of the city, after a week of tensions, originating in a brawl between two children on September 5. Government spokesman Gabriel Attal described this dissolution as a “strong measure”, saying at the end of the Council of Ministers: “Our hand does not tremble when it comes to defending the Republic against those who believe they can bend it ”. He criticized the association for having “tried to invade the town hall of Val-de-Reuil”.
