Gordon Ramsay serves the finest fast food in ten minutes – three recipes

While at the beginning of the corona pandemic in 2020 some suddenly had the intuition to learn Mandarin or to turn the front yard into a self-sufficient paradise, Gordon Ramsay did what he always did, he cooked. Only instead of having a professional camera team look over her shoulder while she was chopping, the daughter of the top Scottish chef took care of the right lighting and the recordings. The work was not shown on TV, but on the “Ramsay in 10” YouTube channel. The idea: “the finest fast food”, i.e. accelerated top cooking under time pressure. Ramsay gave himself ten minutes per dish, 100 of the recipes were now pressed between two book flaps – for everyone to try at home.

Gordon Ramsay is one of the most successful and controversial chefs in the world. He owns more than 30 restaurants and currently holds a total of seven Michelin stars. However, the Scot became known for his choleric, rowdy and nasty nature, which made his cooking shows such as “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Kitchen Nightmares” international audience hits. Almost 20 million people have subscribed to his YouTube channel – the perfect playground for trying out new things. His 10-minute format, in which he pre-cooked his family’s favorite dishes, quickly gained a large following.

Quick favorite dishes with a twist

For him, fast food is “good food that’s ready quickly without compromising on quality,” Ramsay writes in the book. To do this, he borrowed ideas and flavors from different cuisines around the world and reduced the preparation time to ten minutes. He reveals some shortcuts that make cooking more efficient. Above all, he wants to show that the preparation of a great dish does not have to take much longer than heating it up in the microwave. Ramsay also promises “unusual ingredients, surprising combinations and quick versions of evergreens”. It can be chicken nuggets with gochujang mayonnaise or burgers with root vegetable bhajis.

Sounds good right? Don’t rejoice too soon. Because Ramsay’s latest work could be described as a rip-off if you wanted to be overly petty. Very few people will actually be able to put these 10-minute recipes on their plates in ten minutes. The chef makes no secret of this. Already in his introductory text he writes that a professional chef naturally works at a different pace than most people. Even he sometimes struggled to keep to the time limit. In other words, you have to add some sort of amateur time allowance if you venture into any of the dishes. Ramsay: “In general, if you aim for 10 minutes and try the recipe for the first time, the food probably won’t be on the table for 15 to 20 minutes.” But even if the preparation time should be doubled – the dishes are still made quickly. And delicious anyway.
