Google Map (partly) reappears on Google results pages

If the entry into force of the Digital Market Act (DMA) last month had the good taste to better protect our personal data and to fight against the monopoly situation of the tech giants, we had not anticipated that this legislation would come disrupt our almost compulsive use of Google Map. Because since March, when we typed in the address of the restaurant where we were going to meet our friends or that of our new job, it was impossible to display the map that helped us find the way. Instead, a Google Street View photo was displayed.

Good news, Google Map has just made a small appearance again on the page of certain results. Indeed, if you type a specific address, you see a Google Map screenshot appear which is not clickable. But a “Direction” button located just below still allows us to access Google Map in Directions mode.

And now, for broader queries such as the name of a city or region, you can directly access Google Map and navigate the map.

However, we can wonder if this “resurrection” of Google Map on the results pages does not contravene the DMA and if this return is not just a furtive hope for many users. Contacted by the site tom’s guideGoogle has not yet reacted on the subject.
