You have to be able to afford a good cordless vacuum cleaner. The good devices cost over 700 euros, good suction results can be achieved much cheaper with a cable.

For some time now, the product testers have been testing cordless and cordless vacuum cleaners. The result is not surprising. The cable vacuums win under similar criteria. In the current test, they all scored “good”, and they are also much cheaper. Good cable devices are already available for 80 euros. The only cordless vacuum cleaners that achieve the overall grade “Good” come from Bosch and Dyson – they cost over 700 euros. So they are almost nine times as expensive.

Convenience is not measured

One wonders why cordless vacuum cleaners are so popular? Why do customers pay 400 euros for a “satisfactory” cordless device when they can get a good cable vacuum cleaner for 80 euros? The answer lies in the test criteria. When it comes to topics such as suction power, filter effect and stability, a cordless device can hardly make up for the additional weight and higher performance of a corded vacuum cleaner. The real advantage of the cordless tool is the easier handling. You pull it out of the closet, rush to the job site, and start vacuuming instead of moving a heavy vacuum and fumbling with the cord. Cordless devices are bought because of the problem-free mobility – regardless of whether it is a vacuum cleaner or a drill – but the discipline “convenience” of all things is not rated.

Good cordless devices are very expensive

The two best cordless tools – the Bosch BSS825ALL for 715 euros and the SV17 V11 Absolute Extra Pro Dyson for 730 – don’t have to hide when vacuuming. The current Dyson machine, the V15, (“V15 Detect – this Dyson hunts dust with the laser”) has not been tested. The Dyson achieves the best overall result on carpets and also leaves the cable competition behind. Because carpet actually requires more suction power than parquet and tiles. And the cable vacuums in the test have more power than the cordless devices. But sometimes they suck too much. The devices from Rowenta and Severin suck so firmly that they can only be moved with difficulty over the carpet, the testers complain. Regardless of the general power problem, some cordless vacuum cleaners have real dropouts. “Depending on the suction level and suction direction, the Fakir and the Xiaomi only remove about half of the dust from the hard floor,” write the testers.

The bottom line is simple. You have to be able to afford a good cordless vacuum cleaner. “If you only have a small budget, you can actually only buy a cable vacuum cleaner,” say the testers. With the cable vacuum cleaners it is Bosch BGB75X494 for 213 euros in front. It is also recommended Philips FC8786/09 for 269 euros, for little money there is the Rowenta RO3953EA. It only costs 80 euros.

You should also think about that

You should also think about the following: If you tend not to use the handheld vacuum cleaner in eco or automatic mode, the battery will be empty in no time. Then you can vacuum a single room. Anyone who loves large-scale operations and then wants to vacuum the whole house at once will not get by with one battery, even with economical automatic operation. This means that the device then becomes more expensive with an additional battery.

The cable vacuums compete with the standard brush in the test. Depending on the conditions at home – such as dog hair – the results are far better when using a specialized brush.

Super vacuum cleaner with cable

If you want, you can upgrade a cable vacuum cleaner to the ultimate cleaning machine. The cordless vacuum cleaners only achieve good cleaning performance despite the weak drive because a rotating roller with its own motor is housed in the head. She brushes up the dirt before vacuuming it away. Corresponding cable devices are not in the test. But such heads are also available for certain cable devices such as the Miele SEB 236. Such an attachment increases the effect on carpets enormously, because – you guessed it – a rotary brush with a cable connection has much more power than that of a cordless tool.
