Golineh Atai succeeds Hans-Ulrich Gack – Medien

The journalist Golineh Atai will be heading the ZDF studio in Cairo from January 2022, reporting from the entire Arab region for the second. She follows Hans-Ulrich Gack, who is returning to the ZDF headquarters in Mainz, as the broadcaster announced on Thursday.

Atai, who was born in Tehran, worked for ARD as a correspondent in Cairo from 2006 to 2008, then as editor and reporter for ARD “Tagesschau” and “Morgenmagazin”. From 2013 to 2018 she worked as an ARD correspondent in Moscow. For her journalistic work she received the Hanns Joachim Friedrichs Prize and the Peter Scholl Latour Prize, among others.

According to ZDF editor-in-chief Peter Frey, Atai should “define the profile of ZDF’s international reporting and, above all, that foreign journal The ZDF studio in Cairo is not only responsible for reporting from Egypt, but also from Libya, Chad and Northern Sudan as well as numerous countries in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the United Arabs Emirates, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon.
