Goldkronach – Citizens vote against Humboldt Museum Park – Bavaria

Goldkronach:Citizens vote against Humboldt Museum Park

The Upper Franconian town of Goldkronach has been working on the idea of a Humboldt Museum Park for two years. Now the citizens of the city have clearly decided against the project in a referendum. On Sunday, 59.6 percent of the gold crowners voted to stop planning an Alexander von Humboldt Park. Hartmut Koschyk, chairman of the association of the same name, is disappointed with the vote. He thinks the idea has failed. “I lack the imagination to consider what the alternative would be,” he says. Apparently, the arguments of the park skeptics, who had cited obvious follow-up costs, would have caught better than the arguments of those who had promised more attractiveness for the 3500-inhabitant city in the district of Bayreuth. The fact that promised grants were earmarked and not transferable to the expansion of the sewer system or a fire station probably did not convince everyone, says Koschyk. Alexander von Humboldt was sent to Franconia in 1792, where he worked as chief miner in Goldkronach.
