Goal conceded in stoppage time: Promotion candidate Kiel also leaves points behind in Magdeburg

Promotion candidate Holstein Kiel did not win for the third game in a row – at 1. FC Magdeburg, Kiel lost the victory in stoppage time.

Despite a long lead, Kiel was unable to win again after two defeats. With the 1-1 (1-0) score, Magdeburg somewhat consolidated its position ahead of the relegation zone and avoided a second defeat in a row. Timo Becker scored for Kiel, Emir Kuhinja for Magdeburg.

“If you concede a goal shortly before the end, it’s very bitter”said Kiel’s coach Marcel Rapp on ARD radio. “If you look at the game soberly, you have to say that the 1-1 draw was deserved.”

Kuhinja comes in injury time and scores

In the 27th minute, Magdeburg did not consistently clear a free kick from Lewis Holtby from the left side. In the end the ball landed at Becker, who scored from five meters. Magdeburg’s Jean Hugonet blocked the ball with his hand – but the goal went unpunished.

In the second half, Magdeburg’s Alexander Nollenberger shot, Komenda saved with his hand – penalty. However, Luc Castaignos was denied by Kiel goalkeeper Timon Weiner (55′). “The first half was bad”said Magdeburg’s Christian Titz. “Actually, we had to decide for ourselves in the end.”

Kiel was already heading towards victory when Kuhinja came on as a substitute in stoppage time (90+4) and then scored the equalizer after a foot save from goalkeeper Weiner (90+5).
