“You were terrible”: Heidi Klum can’t decide who has to go

Interview training and photo shooting present the GNTM candidates with several challenges. In the end, six models are struggling to move forward and Heidi Klum makes an unusual decision.

GNTM 2024: What happened?

Interview training with Sat.1 presenter Claudia von Brauchitsch is intended to prepare the candidates for the pitfalls of the media world. The journalist welcomes the models in small groups and grills them with sensitive questions. She criticizes the twins Luka and Julian for always appearing in pairs. When talking about Mare, she talks about the revealing photos that the 22-year-old posts on her Instagram account. Candidate Lea puts her foot in it when she says she is there GNTM because she no longer wants to study and work a lot. From this, von Brauchitsch concludes: “So you’re here not to work.” Dominic is also talking about his head and neck, first criticizing his colleague Aldin and then spilling the beans about an alleged romance between Jana and Armin. In the end, Claudia von Brauchitsch has the following tips ready: Always stick to yourself and don’t reveal too much.

In the model villa, the participants meet the German designer Kilian Kerner. He pretends to have a runway training session. In reality, he is looking for two models for a campaign for his brand’s 20th anniversary. “This is the biggest job I’ve given in my entire career,” says Kerner. To get a first impression, the candidates pace up and down in front of him. The designer always expresses the same criticism: too much hips. The models should run cool, edgy and clean. Kerner is enthusiastic about Lea, Kadidja and Stella; when it comes to men, he is impressed by Jermaine and Linus, to whom he pays a special compliment. “I’ll be honest with you. When I saw you, I thought, ‘I have to tell that poor young man today that he’s not a model at all.’ But you’re a model. Sensational. You can’t do any better than that.” Linus still doesn’t get the job. Kilian Kerner chooses Lea and Jermaine as models for his campaign.

Excitement of the week

Interview training leads to one or two unpleasant moments. Dominic’s statements about Aldin in particular have an impact. In an interview with journalist Claudia von Brauchtisch, the 20-year-old stammers: “I think Aldin always pays a lot of attention to perfection. He pays a lot of attention to himself, which is not a problem. I think he could concentrate a little more on himself. He If he could believe in himself more, then he wouldn’t have to do so much about himself.” Von Brauchitsch says what everyone is probably thinking: “I didn’t understand what you said to me at all.” Dominic realizes that his comments have caused a lot of irritation and wants to apologize to Aldin. But he blocks it; nothing more than a cool handshake is possible. “He’s a person who likes to provoke. I don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore,” says Aldin.

The guest judges

In addition to designer Kilian Kerner, photographer Yu Tsai is a guest this week. The American has already appeared in previous GNTM seasons and is known for his nasty comments. “You know how tough he is. He can be very direct,” says candidate Lea. Yu Tsai himself sees it this way: “At the end of the day, I tell the truth. I try to support and help the models as much as possible. If they are too sensitive, they have no place in this industry.” A set of different streets in Tokyo was set up for the photo shoot. The models appear in groups of two in front of the camera and have five minutes to take three pictures. The better player automatically advances one round. Lea and Lydwine as well as Luka and Armin are particularly convincing. Numerous other candidates often hear the following verdict: boring. Xenia and Jana throw Yu Tsai in the head: “I don’t see any models in front of me right now. You’re just fooling around and not taking the shoot seriously. Right now you’re wasting my time.” Heidi Klum is also disappointed: “Some of my models had a board in front of their heads. I was sometimes really surprised at how little creativity they showed.”

Who has to go?

With Nuri, Stella, Jana, Felix, Dominik and Yusupha, six candidates have to worry about moving forward. “It’s really rare that so many models failed to convince me during a shoot,” says Heidi Klum. But she doesn’t want to send everyone straight home. That’s why there’s another task next week. Photographer Yu Tsai announces: “You were terrible. Heidi takes the time and looks at each photo again. She looks at your potential and your performance. She is waiting for you in a catwalk challenge.” This means: In the next episode, the six candidates have to compete against each other again. Their appearance on the catwalk then determines whether they have to move forward or go one round. Designer Kilian Kerner dramatically announces: “Run for your life!”
