The GNTM candidates go to Los Angeles, where they move into the model villa. The distribution of rooms is not without dispute. The men in particular clash. The subsequent fashion show doesn’t go smoothly either.

GNTM 2024: What happened?

From Tenerife the candidates travel to Frankfurt am Main. Three castings await you there. At the first appointment they meet musician Mike Singer. The 24-year-old is looking for two models to star in his new music video. To get the job, the contestants have to dance as if they were in the club and simulate an argument scene. In the end, the choice falls on Marvin and Xenia. The second casting takes place with designer Samuel Gärtner. He would like to book two models for his fashion show. Aldin and Kadidja get the job. Gärtner even unexpectedly hires a third candidate, Marvin. “Marvin is a super cool guy. I love his casual walk. It’s just fun to watch him when he walks,” enthuses the designer. The last job is given to the makers of the magazine “Sleek”. “We’re looking for people who have rough edges and don’t have a commercial face,” says publisher Christian Bracht. He chooses Kadidja and Maximilian: both are photographed for the magazine. After the castings, the participants fly Los Angeles – and are finally allowed to move into the model villa.

Excitement of the week

Instead of a luxurious villa, the candidates can expect a huge loft in one of Los Angeles’ skyscrapers. The view is breathtaking, the furnishings are comfortable. But as in every season, there is trouble about the allocation of rooms. This time it’s the men who clash. Lucas secured a bed right by the window. However, the group of four around Maximilian, Aldin, Jermaine and Frieder claim the space for themselves. A heated discussion ensues. “I can understand that the four of them want to be in one room. But I also want something and I don’t really care what they want,” says Lucas. Jermaine complains: “It’s like kindergarten. I felt like I was at my internship in kindergarten.” In the end, Lucas gives in and moves into another room.

The guest judge

This time Heidi Klum receives support from Christian Cowan. The US designer outfits the candidates with his fashion. Cowan is very engaging and approachable, giving instructions and tips backstage. Not all of his outfits are easy to wear and for the first time some men are sent down the catwalk in high heels. It’s in a football stadium: the models have to walk across the grass while football players and cheerleaders act around them. Christian Cowan is particularly enthusiastic about Kadidja and Maximilian. Heidi Klum also believes that the 21-year-old Austrian is made for the fashion world. Things aren’t going so well for the twins Julian and Luka. They both make a mistake on the catwalk and take the wrong exit. Xenia is unlucky with her dress: one strap slips and exposes her entire right breast. Fashion designer Christian Cowan comments: “If you get a delicate dress, you should make sure that it is prepared with tape in advance.” As a viewer, you think: Isn’t it the designer’s or stylist’s job to make sure an outfit fits perfectly? Demanding something like that from the candidates seems disproportionate. Likewise, Cowan’s statement that models should ask for other shoes if they can’t walk in high heels is surprising. Complaining about the look was always considered a cardinal sin on GNTM and Heidi Klum also preached this season: “This is our craft. We have to be able to walk in high heels.”

Who has to go?

Of course, no one wants to fly straight back home so soon after arriving in Los Angeles. In fact, Heidi Klum decides to let all candidates go through to the next round. Frieder suspects something bad: “That just means that next time a lot more will be sorted out.”

Klum saying of the week

“She seems to me like she’s just another cheerleader. I think that’s too cute.” (Heidi Klum deciding on candidate Stella)
