Heidi Klum gets out the wind machine – and sweeps six models out of the show

For two weeks, Heidi Klum showed mercy and didn’t send anyone home. This week on GNTM it’s all about making it into the top 20 – and the head of the jury is tough. Three women and three men have to go.

GNTM 2024: What happened?

While the men enjoy their free time in the model villa, there is a casting for the women. The twelve remaining candidates complete a test shoot for the lingerie label Intimissimi. The Italian brand has recently been particularly popular through its campaigns Heidi and Leni Klum made headlines. Those responsible are now looking for a model who will be seen on posters and in advertisements throughout Germany. Grace and Kadidja are the most convincing. In the end, the choice falls on Grace. “I can’t describe it, I don’t have the words,” says the 24-year-old happily. She had previously expressed concerns about posing in underwear as a Syrian-born woman. “It’s not normal for us. It will also be difficult for my parents. But I’ll do it. I want to be a role model for Arab women,” says Grace.

Another challenge awaits the candidates in the model villa: in a total of four hours, all 26 models have to create a short Tik Tok video of themselves one after the other. The motto for the clip is: “I am unique”. The individuality of each and every individual should therefore be in the foreground. A subsequent ranking decides who solved the task best. In addition to the allotted time, the assessment creates discussions. Nuri, Felix and Aldin fear that the strongest performance will not be judged neutrally, but will only be decided based on sympathy and group formation. Frieder and Stella ultimately emerge as winners. Both receive a shopping budget of 500 euros each and are allowed to tour the shops in Los Angeles.

Excitement of the week

Nuri, Stella, Jana, Felix, Dominik and Yusupha received harsh criticism during the photo shoot last week. Before the actual decision, they all have to run in front of Heidi Klum again and worry about moving forward. The catwalk is shaped like an arrow; the models are supposed to stop at five points and think about a pose. Once again Heidi Klum is disappointed with the performances. “My dear models, today I really have to get out the tissues. It breaks my heart,” she says and announces the expulsion of two candidates. The GNTM time is over for Nuri, Jana, Felix and Yusupha. Everyone is surprised and shocked. “I don’t want to go,” Nuri cries. “I wasn’t prepared for it,” admits Jana and Yusupha says: “I didn’t see it coming.” Felix predicts Heidi Klum will have a great catwalk career – but he is still eliminated. “It just wasn’t your week,” is Klum’s reasoning. The 20-year-old doesn’t understand it: “The feedback doesn’t really do anything for me. If that’s your opinion, then that’s your opinion and not mine. Done.” The quadruple expulsion causes tears and horror not only among those affected, but also among the other candidates.

The guest juror

After the first decision, the remaining models have to walk the catwalk, but with special challenges. Supermodel Winnie Harlow explains what it’s all about: 20 wind machines will provide a lot of counter pressure, and the candidates will also wear a black veil over their faces. “Run with self-confidence, strength and, most importantly, power,” is the 29-year-old’s advice. Harlow has already appeared as a guest judge in previous GNTM seasons. The Canadian took part in the US format “America’s Next Top Model” in 2014 and then started an international career – despite her illness vitiligo, which causes different pigmentation of the skin. “The opportunity to represent everyone who has ever felt different is the most important part of my entire career,” says Harlow. Together with Klum, she now judges the performances of the GNTM models on the catwalk.

Who has to go?

Heidi Klum quickly sent four models home, but that’s not the end of it: after the catwalk presentation, Lilli and Dominik also have to leave. It’s particularly bitter for the 28-year-old. He had survived the first decision, but one round later it was over. Dominik bears it with composure: “I’m proud of myself for getting this far. Of course I would have liked to win, but I also see the potential of the others.” Armin reacts more shocked. He loses two of his closest people, Jana and Dominik. “I didn’t understand it. That hurts,” says the 27-year-old.
