“It really doesn’t have to be like this”: nude shooting makes some models despair

What happened?

The remaining twelve candidates compete against each other in a catwalk show in teams of two. The special feature: The models are connected to each other through their hair or their clothes. This causes one or the other stumble, because not every presentation runs synchronously. Six of the participants can look forward to another casting invitation. Juliana, Amaya, Luca, Martina, Sophie and Vanessa are vying for a job for the German fashion label Marc Cain. Martina receives the promise: she can walk the catwalk at the show during Berlin Fashion Week. The air in the villa, on the other hand, is thick. Amaya, Vivien and Anita pack their things and move out of the room they share with Noella. The 25-year-old is said to be too loud, they want to be left alone in the morning and sleep longer, explains Amaya. Left alone, Noella struggles with exclusion – even if she tries to hide it. “They have formed an opinion about me. I can’t change that. I have to learn to accept and tolerate that. I have to build up an emotional distance so that I don’t break myself,” says the Berliner.

Understandably, not all candidates are enthusiastic about the nude photo shoot on the beach. “Nudity is something private for me. It really doesn’t have to be,” says Lieselotte. The 66-year-old makes her way to Heidi Klum to say goodbye: she wants to refuse the shoot and get out. But Klum talks to her candidate: “I won’t let you drive home. You’re probably crazy Lieselotte!” The 48-year-old manages to change Lieselotte’s mind and reports about her experiences naked on vacation. “In former Yugoslavia we always go naturist. I always thought it was great.”

A huge gold watch serves as the backdrop for the shooting, in which the models are supposed to pose like hands. Their bodies are painted with golden body painting color. For Noella, not only posing in front of the camera, but also the analog time is a challenge. You don’t know where the hands are. “I only have my cell phone and it shows me the exact time,” she explains. Heidi Klum is a bit irritated and explains the hour and minute hands to the 25-year-old. Her conclusion: “Maybe I’m too old. Why do we still have to learn the clock?” Juliana masters the shooting best. “She’s my favorite. These are the hardest poses of the day and you make it look easy. I’m really impressed,” enthuses photographer Brian Bowen Smith.

The guest judge

To evaluate the presentation on the catwalk, Heidi Klum brought Maye Musk to the side. Entrepreneur Elon Musk’s mother reports on her own experiences as a model. She started at the age of 15, is now 74 years old and more in demand than ever. “I sell my wrinkles and my age. People love it,” says Musk. In addition, the Canadian speaks passable German and is respectfully addressed by Heidi Klum – a detail that stands out. Candidate Martina comes out as a big fan of Maye Musk, and Lieselotte also has a personal anecdote to tell: “Your son works five kilometers from my house, Tesla Factory in Grünheide.”

GNTM 2022: who has to go?

Three models have to step in front of Heidi Klum as wobbly candidates: Sophie, Anita and Amaya. In the end, it hits Amaya, the youngest of the three. The 18-year-old couldn’t impress on the catwalk and needed too many instructions at the photo shoot. Vivien and Anita in particular mourn Amaya’s departure. “It’s not entirely understandable for us. We were always the least worried about Amaya. She was just strong,” says Anita.
