Gladbach showed from the start that they wanted to win this game. Borussia pushed Mainz more and more into their half, but rarely created chances. Plea missed the best opportunity after a quarter of an hour. After a rather weak phase, the foals then managed a remarkable attack, which Embolo used to take the lead. Very little has been seen of Mainz so far. Sommer has not yet had to defuse more than a few long-range shots.

35 minutesGladbach wants to follow suit! Zentner is put under so much pressure that he can only play his tee shot into Neuhaus’s feet. The midfielder pulls away immediately from 40 meters, but Zentner is back in his goal in time and grabs it safely.

The Foals play their way to the edge of the penalty area with direct short passes, where Neuhaus attracts several players from Mainz and can serve Embolo. The striker comes free from 15 meters and puts the ball in the left corner.
