Gladbach: Honorat is finally a foal – change fixed

Finally he is here!

Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed Franck Honorat from French first division club Stade Brest. The club announced this late Tuesday afternoon (July 11).

The 26-year-old offensive player has signed a contract on the Lower Rhine until 2028.

The foals are very happy to have signed the Frenchman as the successor to Jonas Hofmann (30/Bayer Leverkusen). The club had already tried last summer to lure the offensive player to the Lower Rhine. The Borussia bosses had allegedly made an offer three times, and the offer from Stade Brest was rejected three times.

Now the transfer is finally fixed! “Franck is a player who can play on both offensive flanks, who is fast, can score goals and also prepare,” said Borussia’s sporting director Roland Virkus (56). “We’ve been following his path for a long time and are pleased that he was determined to come to us despite other offers.”

For Honorat, a wish has come true with the move to the Bundesliga, as he had repeatedly expressed his major goal in numerous interviews beforehand. “I’m very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to getting to know all the players, the club and all the new things to come and getting started on the pitch,” said the 26-year-old.

Born in Toulon, Honorat started his footballing career at his hometown club, Sporting Club Toulon. This brought him from US Sanaryenne to OGC Nice in 2011, for whom he made his Ligue 1 professional debut in November 2013.

Honorat played for Nice in 19 first division and one cup games before being loaned out to second division side FC Sochaux for the 2016/17 season, for whom he scored one goal in 29 competitive games and provided three other goals directly.

Honorat joined Clermont Foot the following season and made 35 second division appearances (3 goals, 8 assists) and three League Cup appearances.

For the 2018/19 season, the 1.80 meter tall offensive player joined the second division AS Saint-Étienne, but was immediately loaned back to Clermont Foot. As a result, he contributed another four goals and ten assists in 35 competitive games, scored three goals in three cup games and came on in a League Cup game.

After his loan ended, Honorat returned to AS Saint-Étienne and made 12 top-flight, four cup, one League Cup and two Europa League appearances for the eastern French club in the 2019/20 season.

The right-footed player finally joined Stade Brest for the 2020/21 season. In his debut season for the Brittany club, Honorat scored eight goals and directly assisted five in 36 top-flight appearances, plus one appearance in the domestic club cup.

In 2021/22 he contributed 11 goals and six assists in 34 league games and featured in three domestic cup games. After the 2022/23 season, he had six goals and five assists and two cup appearances after 33 first division games.

In addition, Honorat has gone through all of France’s junior national teams, from U16 to U19. The offensive player scored one goal in a total of nine international matches.

As can be seen in Borussia’s social media posts, Honorat will be number 9 in the foals in the future.
