Giving voice is “Elementary” for Adèle Exarchopoulos and Vincent Lacoste

At the Cannes Film Festival where everyone is there to show off, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Vincent Lacoste are exceptions. You don’t see them in Elementary, the new Pixar film by Peter Sohn, since they only lend their voices to the heroes of the film, a flame girl and a drop of water boy who fall in love with each other. At the risk of extinguishing or evaporating.

“It’s very easy to be in Cannes with a film of which we are very proud”, confides Vincent Lacoste. “It’s too good. It’s fun, ”adds Adele Exarchopoulos. However, the exercise was not easy for the duo whose characters try to create a love story that one might think is impossible.

A new experience

“You have to forget the naturalness that you usually expect from acting in the cinema. We must stick to the character that we have in our ears and in our eyes, explains Adèle Exarchopoulos. It’s a completely different technique. His flamboyant heroine required a lot of energy. The emotional hero that doubles Vincent Lacoste was also complicated to talk to. “It’s hard at first, admits Vincent Lacoste, because everything has to go through the voice. We must indeed forget the natural. You have to put a lot of effort into it. »

But why were they chosen? Because they look like heroes in real life? “These are images that emerge from afar, according to our filmographies”, explains Vincent Lacoste. His partner agrees. “I think it’s a fantasy, like we look like the characters we’ve played in other movies,” she says.

These two get along like thieves in the city fair but they will get along for the first time in the film during the screening this Saturday evening in Cannes. “I can’t wait to see the French version in its entirety, because until now, we’ve only seen bits and pieces of it,” admits Vincent Lacoste. In Cannes, the English version will be screened. Their French voices will only be in theaters from June 21.
