Supermodel Gisele Bündchen (43) has lost her mother. Vania Nonnenmacher has died at the age of 75, according to a report.

The Brazilian news portal “GZH” writes that Bündchen’s mother was being treated at the “Hospital Moinhos de Vento” in Porto Alegre.

The hospital shared this message on its homepage: “Vânia Maria Nonnenmacher Bündchen died on Sunday as a result of cancer. She was admitted to Hospital Moinhos de Vento on January 26.”

The model with German roots

Gisele Caroline Nonnenmacher Bündchen – that’s the full name of the “Victoria’s Secret” angel. And this reveals a lot about her family origins. Because: Both her father Valdir and her mother Vania have German roots. The family has lived in Brazil for six generations.

She barely understands German, but her parents do. “Whenever they were at home, they spoke German – if they wanted to say something that we children shouldn’t understand,” Gisele said in an interview.

“I think German is my discipline,” Bündchen also revealed in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” in 2019.

Gisele’s mother had a great influence on the supermodel. So she took a course at a modeling school after her mother Vania asked.

At the age of 14, Gisele was discovered by a large modeling agency at the fast food chain “McDonald’s” and was immediately signed. She then had to leave her family and move to London.

But the bond with her loved ones always remained…

In 2018, mother and daughter posed together on the cover of Brazilian Vogue. “It feels so good to be with you, mom,” Gisele wrote on Instagram afterwards. “To reconnect with my essence, my origins and nature.”
