Christopher Clark, the great Australian-born historian who teaches in Cambridge, UK, actually came to Markus Lanz to talk about the German Revolution of 1848 and thus his new book. But even a historian cannot close his eyes to the present, especially not when a presenter asks him about it in the television studio. As a historian, it’s a good idea to dig into the box of quotations; Clark picked out one based on the “great German sociologist Max Weber”: “In mathematics and physics, problems can be solved, but not always in politics.”
