Gilad Hekselman’s “Trio Grande” in Munich – Munich

You can now call it a separate school of jazz, what has been spilling out into the world for 30 years from the Thelma Yellin Music School in Tel Aviv and the other cadres that have emerged in Jerusalem, mostly via the Brooklyn station: a world jazz with audibly Israeli Mediterranean roots.

One of its outstanding representatives has long been the guitarist Gilad Hekselman, one of the boldest, most creative and most versatile in his field. Whether Eastern Bop, retrofuturism or modern fusion, you can find many new terms for his music, certainly also with Trio Grande 2.0with whom he is now once again in the Underpass presents. Hekselman swirls with the British saxophonist Will Vinson, who lives in the USA, and the American Nate Wood, who plays bass and drums (!).

Trio Grande, Saturday, March 23rd, 8:30 p.m., Unterfahrt, Einsteinstrasse 42, www.unterfahrt.de
