The Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami also wins the giant slalom at Kronplatz two days after her Super-G triumph in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Mikaela Shiffrin’s lead in the overall World Cup is melting.

The Swiss ski racer Lara Gut-Behrami has it Won the giant slalom at Kronplatz and moved closer to Mikaela Shiffrin, who is leading the overall World Cup.

The 32-year-old won the race in South Tyrol by more than a second ahead of New Zealander Alice Robinson and Swede Sara Hector, who shared second place at the same time. The only German starter, Fabiana Dorigo, did not make it into the second round.

For Gut-Behrami it was the 42nd World Cup victory of her career and the fifth success this season. In the overall ranking she is only 95 points behind Shiffrin. The American did not start at Kronplatz. She fell heavily on the first of two descents in Cortina d’Ampezzo last Friday and has been sidelined ever since.

The next women’s races will take place in Soldeu in Andorra on February 10th and 11th. There will then be a giant slalom and a slalom. The speed events in Garmisch-Partenkirchen planned for the coming weekend were canceled on Monday due to the weather.
