DSV ski racer Paulina Schlosser fell badly at the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora. At halftime, the Swede Sara Hector leads. The top trio around Mikaela Shiffrin, on the other hand, could not, as usual, be at the forefront.
Because there is not enough snow in Maribor, the first Giant Slalom World Cup will be held in Kranjska Gora in 2022. However, the first run was overshadowed by a serious fall. DSV athlete Paulina Schlosser started the course with start number 55, slipped away after a few goals and flung across the piste, twisting her leg. The 20-year-old was treated on the slopes for 20 minutes and had to be transported away with a rescue sled.
With Schlosser and Emma Aicher, there was only one detusche duo at the start. Aicher did not make it into the top 30. Jessica Hilzinger was absent after a positive corona test.
Hector leads after the first round
After the first run, Sara Hector leads the competition in 1: 07.23 minutes. The Swede was able to celebrate a success in Courchevel, France, in the current season. “It was really strong,” said Hector in an interview with ORF about her best time. “I was just trying to accelerate. And I was quick.”
The 29-year-old can now go up in Slovenia. However, the French Tessa Worley, winner of Lienz, is only eight hundredths of a second away from the best time. Last year’s winner Marta Bassino (ITA) is only 0.23 seconds behind and will certainly attack in the final round.
Top trio around Shiffrin is surprisingly behind
Co-favorite Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), who won two of the four giant slaloms that have been held so far and who leads the discipline world cup, did not get along with the course and was unable to achieve a top time. Not only Shiffrin (+1.48), but also Petra Vlhova (+1.51 | SVK) and world champion Lara Gut-Behrami (+1.53 | SUI) surprisingly fell behind. After 30 starters, the trio was 14.15 and 17th. Italy’s second top rider Federica Brignone is absent due to knee problems.
