According to the police, a doctor from Gerolstein who has been missing since January has become the victim of a homicide. Investigators search a wooded area for his body.

According to investigators, a doctor from Gerolstein in Rhineland-Palatinate who has been missing for around six months has become the victim of a homicide. The body of the 53-year-old has not yet been found, as the police headquarters in Trier announced on Sunday evening. His car was discovered burned down in a forest in early January, and since then there has been no trace of the missing person.

On Monday, the investigators searched large areas of forest near Rockeskyll in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich with corpse detection dogs. According to the police, the investigation indicated that the body could have been placed there. The search is expected to continue on Tuesday.

Doctor from Gerolstein missing since January

According to the information, the man was last seen on December 30 at work in a hospital in Daun in the Eifel. Four days later, he was reported missing by his employer when he failed to show up for work.

Police believe the doctor was killed on December 30 or 31. On January 3, the man’s car was discovered burned out on a path in a forest in the neighboring district of Bernkastel-Wittlich. It had been set on fire with accelerant.

Body not burned in car

Investigators rule out that the 53-year-old burned in his car. It can be assumed that the body was taken to an unknown location. Possible murder weapons could have been disposed of near the scene of the fire, it said.

The extensive search for the man has so far been unsuccessful, despite the help of sniffer dogs. The police asked for information from witnesses. The case is to be presented on Wednesday in the ZDF criminal program “Aktenzeichen XY … unsolved”.
