Hito Steyerl has been letting things rip in her videos for 25 years: brightly colored, politically radical, she almost always appears in them herself. She has also been a star in the global art scene for years. But when you sit across from her in an empty café in Kreuzberg, you have no idea of any of this: she speaks softly and in sentences that are as short as possible. She has never feared noise. At 15, the then squatter broke a window at Deutsche Bank and was expelled from her high school in Munich; later she worked as a stuntwoman.
