The German team fails again in the group stage of a World Cup. Because Spain messed up against Japan and the DFB-Elf was once again negligent with their chances, the World Cup in Qatar is over for Germany. The highlights in the video.
Germany experiences a debacle at the World Cup and fails again after the preliminary round. Immediately after the final whistle, Thomas Müller analyzes the game. Then he speaks up and gets emotional. Müller addresses “all German football fans” directly.
DGermany is experiencing another World Cup debacle. After the preliminary round four years ago in Russia, the DFB-Elf also fails in Qatar in the group phase. With Japan beating Spain 2-1, Germany’s 4-2 win over Costa Rica is not enough to qualify for the round of 16. Germany does not manage to play the game against a second-rate opponent at most for 90 minutes and even falls behind. A progress would not have been deserved. The team presented itself too weak, especially in the opening defeat against Japan.
For Thomas Müller it could have been the last game in the national team jersey. The FC Bayern striker played an unlucky World Cup and was substituted against Costa Rica, as in the first two group games in which he failed to score.

Directly after the final whistle and the sealed end of the World Cup, Müller turned himself in. “The disappointment is enormous. After the Spain game, we had an extremely good feeling that we were able to get through to the tournament against a good team with a compact defense and that it could have gone far,” said Müller on ARD.
“I tried to keep my heart on the pitch in every game”
Then the 32-year-old became thoughtful and took a deep breath. Müller started a farewell speech, even if he didn’t want to announce his resignation directly. Müller’s words in the quote:
“It’s an absolute disaster. I still don’t know what’s going to happen with me. If that was my last game for Germany, then I would like to say a few words to all the German football fans who have accompanied me over the years: It was a tremendous pleasure, dear people. Many Thanks. We have had incredible moments together. In every game, I tried to keep my heart on the pitch and gave it my all. Sometimes there were tears of joy from my actions. Sometimes the spectators might have had pain in their faces because actions didn’t work out. But I did it with love, you can be sure of that. And now I have to see everything else. Thanks a lot for this.”
Müller became world champion in 2014 and has scored 44 goals in 121 international matches. There probably won’t be any more.
