Food comes first, then morale – it’s a similar story with gas. Qatar is frowned upon as the host of a football World Cup, but welcomes it as a supplier of natural gas. On Tuesday, the emirate signed the first long-term supply contract to Germany, which is undoubtedly a point victory for Qatar. And not just because the Germans, with their silent protests at the World Cup, are finally convicted of double standards. The emirate also gets a foot in the door.
