Jamal Musiala (22′) and Ilkay Gündogan (67′) scored in front of more than 50,000 spectators in Stuttgart. The team of national coach Julian Nagelsmann played in their pink away jerseys for the first time in this tournament and dominated the match for long stretches. However, the Hungarian national team made it much more difficult for the DFB eleven than the Scots did in the opening match.
Scholz and Orbán present
For the first time at this European Championship, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz watched the match from the stands. Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was also a guest in the arena. In many German cities, thousands of people gathered to watch the match together.
The next game of the German national team is next Sunday (June 23). In Frankfurt, Wirtz, Musiala and Co. will face Switzerland – who drew (1:1) against Scotland in Cologne.
Before the match between Scotland and Switzerland in the Cologne stadium, one got the impression that the Scots were playing at home – so many men in skirts were walking around Müngersdorf.
