Germany and Iran: Tougher approach against Tehran – politics

The foreign ministers had negotiated for 27 days in the Palais Coburg in Vienna when they signed the nuclear agreement with Iran on July 14, 2015. Less than seven days later, the then Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) became the first Western politician to board a government plane with a business delegation in order to get trade with the Islamic Republic going again. The sanctions in the nuclear dispute had made business very difficult. Now the Germans wanted to be the first in Tehran – to the irritation of their allies and unimpressed by the fact that Israel was storming against the agreement.
