It is a project from before the turning point in security policy: very complicated, cumbersome, lengthy – and therefore not at all in the sense of Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD). He would like to quickly equip the troops with new material and equipment that is available on the market. But in 2017 Germany and France agreed to cooperate more closely on armaments projects. Tanks and next-generation aircraft should be developed, built and financed together. The tank project is about finding a successor to the one used in Germany for 2035 leopard 2 and for them Leclerc– Develop French tanks. The project has the working title MGCS, Main Ground Combat System.
