My hometown of Chernivtsi/Chernivtsi is located on the south-western tip of Ukraine, in the northern part of the historical region of Bukovina, the EU border with Romania is 40 kilometers from the city. Our two-family house is on the outskirts of town, where many Bukovina Germans used to live before they were brought “home to the Reich” in 1940. In view of this situation, people think they are (still) safe – in case the worst scenario occurs and the Russian army invades Ukraine. According to the “image-plan for invasion”, today’s Chernivtsi region would not belong to the area of interest of the Russian army. But does anyone really know what all the interests of the Kremlin include?
