“I believe this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship,” says Peter Gorschlüter, director of Essen’s Folkwang Museum, quoting Humphrey Bogart’s famous last sentence from “Casablanca.” A sentence that reinforces the “future cooperation between two rivals,” Gorschlüter explained on Monday at the presentation of the founding commission for the German Photo Institute in Düsseldorf, to which he himself was appointed. Perhaps the sentence is a sign of reconciliation, but it could also be described as “pure pragmatism”.
