Performance, theater, music and science will play a larger role than the visual arts in the German contribution to the Venice Art Biennale, which begins on April 20th. This emerges from the concept that the Institute for Foreign Relations (Ifa), which is responsible for the German pavilion, published on Tuesday. One of the two artists who will be playing in the German pavilion this year is Ersan Mondtag, who is best known as a theater director. But Yael Bartana, the Berlin-based Israeli artist who will be performing in the pavilion with him, has also repeatedly worked with performance and film. Four more artists will be working at a second venue on the island of Certosa off Venice. All of them deal with sounds. Be it as a musician like Jan St. Werner, known as a member of the duo Mouse on Mars, and Robert Lippok (ornament and crime, to rococo red) or as researchers like Michael Akstaller and Nicole L’Huillier.
