What do you do with all your DVDs in times of streaming? Alexandra Maria Lara and Florian Gallenberger are ready to say goodbye – or almost done with it.

Actress Alexandra Maria Lara (44) and director Florian Gallenberger (51) are gradually saying goodbye to their DVD collections. Both run the German Film Academy in Berlin together. When asked if they still have DVD shelves at home, Lara replied: “Yes, I do. But I’ve been thinking about getting rid of this DVD shelf completely for a few weeks now.”

Your colleague has already parted with a number of DVDs. “I had a lot – over 2000 DVDs. The father of one of my best friends started collecting DVDs with great dedication years ago,” said Gallenberger. “He now has around 35,000 DVDs. And little by little I sent him my DVDs by the crate.”

The separation was also associated with a bit of pain. “And now I only have one last box, which he will also get this year. And then I have no more DVDs,” said Gallenberger of the German Press Agency. The Film Academy awards the German Film Prize in Berlin this Friday (May 12).
