The film prize will be awarded on June 24th in Berlin. The awards are endowed with a total of around three million euros for new projects.

The nominations for the German Film Awards have been confirmed. The biography “Dear Thomas” about the writer Thomas Brasch (1945-2001) starts with twelve suggestions.

The film by director Andreas Kleinert has been nominated for best feature film, director and screenplay, among other things, as the German Film Academy announced on Thursday in Berlin. Main actor Albrecht Schuch also has a chance.

Andreas Dresen’s drama “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush” received ten nominations. The film tells the story of the mother of former Guantánamo prisoner Murat Kurnaz. The production is also nominated as best feature film for the golden Lola.

A total of six films have been nominated in this category. This includes “Great Freedom” with leading actor Franz Rogwoski about a homosexual man who has to go to prison in post-war Germany. The drama “Spencer” about Princess Diana, the tragic comedy “Beautiful” by Karoline Herfurth and “Contra” by Sönke Wortmann have also been nominated for best feature film.

The approximately 2,200 members of the film academy are now voting on many award winners. Two awards have already been made: cameraman Jürgen Jürges will be honored for outstanding services to German film and “The School of Magical Animals” will be honored as the most popular film.
