Shortly before the tour premiere, musicians from the rock band Santiano became so ill that the concert in Schwerin was canceled. The tour start in Leipzig is also canceled. Where things will go from here is already clear.

Two musicians are in the band due to a severe gastrointestinal infection Santiano was taken to the hospital and the premiere of the new tour in Schwerin was canceled at short notice. “The dramatic developments in the last hours before the premiere took us completely by surprise,” the band wrote on their Facebook page.

Keyboardist Arne Wiegand was caught during the sound check in the afternoon, and bandmate Hans-Timm “Timsen” Hinrichsen suffered the same fate around 6 p.m. “He too has now ended up in the hospital. Both were and are in a condition that made it impossible for us to play the premiere tonight.” The “Schweriner Volkszeitung” had previously reported.

The concert in Leipzig on Thursday (April 11th) was also canceled, as a spokeswoman for the German Press Agency said. In Hanover on Saturday (April 13th) the “Off to Doggerland!” tour should continue as planned.

“We are beyond heartbroken. We still can’t believe this really just happened,” the band wrote on Facebook.

Alternative dates have been fixed

Replacement dates were already communicated there on Thursday morning: October 2nd for Schwerin and April 19th for Leipzig. “The tickets remain valid, of course, or can alternatively be returned to the ticket office where they were purchased.”

Santiano have stood for stirring sea shanties for more than ten years. The band from the north is one of the most successful in Germany in recent decades.

Their first album “Bis ans Ende der Welt” catapulted the Schleswig-Holsteiners Björn Both, Axel Stosberg, Hans-Timm Hinrichsen and Andreas Fahnert as well as the Brit Pete Sage to the top of the charts.
